Greek-Roman roots of Saga Writing – I of II

Introduction

In Íslendinga saga by Sturla Þórðarson (d. 1284) and a brief three-chapter account of Sturla’s trials and tribulations before he makes his peace with the King of Norway, brings a “law book” to Iceland, and serves for a time as “law-speaker” before peaceful retirement and death (Sturlu þáttr), there are two key Cipher Values whose roots in the works of Plato, Virgil, Horace and Ovid are near obvious. They are,

552503 and 777077

The first Cipher Value is that of a purported account of those who died at or of wounds suffered in the biggest and bloodiest battle in Icelandic history, the so-called Örlygsstaðabardagi allegedly fought on 21 August 1238.

My conclusion is that the alleged battle is a fictional re-enactment of an Armageddon scenario.

The second Cipher Value is that of the text of the last of three brief chapters of Sturlu þáttr, which concludes with an account of Sturla Þórðarson’s death and burial.

In the context of Augustan-Saga-Shakespeare Myth, certain details of the account appear mythical in nature.
