Background

„It is impossible to help but notice now and then that Armado [of Shakespeare’s ‘Love’s Labour’s Lost’] is extraordinarily like Don Quixote in his consistent overestimate of himself and in his insistence on imagining himself a superhuman storybook hero. […]

„There is something rather pleasant in the thought that Shakespeare might be borrowing from Miguel de Cervantes, the Spanish author of the Don Quixote saga, since Cervantes was almost an exact contemporary of Shakespeare’s and by all odds one of the few writers, on the basis of Don Quixote alone, worthy of being mentioned in the same breath with Shakespeare.

„There is only one catch, but that is a fatal one. The first part of Don Quixote was published in 1605, a dozen years at least after Love’s Labor’s Lost was written.“ (Isaac Asimov, Asimov’s Guide to Shakespeare, Avenel Books, New York, 1978, Vol, I, pp. 431-2.)

„Another curious case of cryptography was presented to the public in 1917 by one of the best of the SHAKESPEARE scholars, Dr. Alfred von Weber Ebenhoff of Vienna.  Employing the same systems previously applied to the works of Bacon, he began to examine the works of Cervantes…. Pursuing the investigation, he discovered overwhelming material evidence: the first English translation of Don Quixote bears corrections in Bacon’s hand.  He concluded that this English version was the original of the novel and that Cervantes had published a Spanish translation of it.“ (J. Duchaussoy, Bacon, Shakespeare ou Saint-Germain?, Paris, La Colombe, 1962, p. 122 – in Umberto Eco’s Foucault’s Pendulum, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Publishers, New York, 1989, p. 406.)

The Last Judgement

John 8:44

Ye are of your father the deuill,

and the lusts of your father ye will doe:

hee was a murtherer from the beginning,

and abode not in the trueth, because there is no truth in him.

When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his owne:

for he is a liar, and the father of it.

XI. And ye shall know the Trueth,

and the Trueth shall make you free

(John Ch. 8, KJB,. 1611)

2680645

8:1

19016 = Iesus went vnto ye Mount of Oliues:

8:2

20607 = And earely in the morning hee came againe into the Temple,

25873 = and all the people came vnto him, and he sate downe, and taught them.

8:3

31531 = And the Scribes and Pharisees brought vnto him a woman taken in adultery,

14645 = and when they had set her in the mids,

8:4

34275 = They say vnto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

8:5

29123 = Now Moses in the Law commanded vs, that such should be stoned:

11607 = but what sayest thou?

8:6

26586 = This they said, tempting him, that they might haue to accuse him.

13526 = But Iesus stouped downe,

30800 = and with his finger wrote on the ground as though he heard them not.

8:7

15656 = So when they continued asking him,

15969 = hee lift vp himselfe, and saide vnto them,

31951 = Hee that is without sinne among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

8:8

23238 = And againe, hee stouped downe, and wrote on the ground.

8:9

27545 = And they which heard it, being conuicted by their owne conscience,

27681 = went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, euen vnto the last:

26775 = and Iesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

8:10

27409 = When Iesus had lift vp himselfe, and saw none but the woman,

25757 = hee said vnto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers?

9611 = Hath no man condemned thee?

8:11

7970 = She saide, No man, Lord.

19449 = And Iesus saide to her, Neither doe I condemne thee:

8247 = Goe and sinne no more.

8:12

17395 = Then spake Iesus againe vnto them, saying,

11700 = I am the light of the world:

22971 = he that followeth mee, shall not walke in darknesse,

12434 = but shall haue the light of life.

8:13

16786 = The Pharisees therefore said vnto him,

25529 = Thou bearest record of thy selfe, thy record is not true.

8:14

15988 = Iesus answered and said vnto them,

22746 = Though I beare record of my selfe, yet my record is true:

18784 = for I know whence I came, and whither I goe:

21647 = but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I goe.

8:15

14169 = Yee iudge after the flesh, I iudge no man.

8:16

15353 = And yet if I iudge, my iudgement is true:

20186 = for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

8:17

36561 = It is also written in your Law, that the testimonie of two men is true.

8:18

16374 = I am one that beare witnesse of my selfe,

21552 = and the Father that sent mee, beareth witnesse of me.

8:19

19413 = Then said they vnto him, Where is thy Father?

22624 = Iesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father:

23704 = if ye had knowen mee, yee should haue knowen my Father also.

8:20

31530 = These words spake Iesus in the treasury, as hee taught in the Temple:

24189 = and no man layd hands on him, for his houre was not yet come.

8:21

14200 = Then saide Iesus againe vnto them,

22336 = I goe my way, and ye shall seeke me, & shall die in your sinnes:

12460 = Whither I goe, ye cannot come.

8:22

18446 = Then said the Iewes, Will hee kill himselfe?

18696 = because he saith, Whither I goe, ye cannot come.

8:23

8488 = And hee said vnto them,

12198 = Yee are from beneath, I am from aboue:

20541 = Yee are of this world, I am not of this world.

8:24

25360 = I said therefore vnto you, that ye shall die in your sinnes.

23701 = For if yee beleeue not that I am hee, yee shall die in your sinnes.

8:25

17770 = Then said they vnto him, Who art thou?

12124 = And Iesus saith vnto them,

22328 = Even the same that I saide vnto you from the beginning.

8:26

17732 = I haue many things to say, and to iudge of you.

12971 = But hee that sent mee is true,

27250 = and I speake to the world, those things which I haue heard of him.

8:27

24546 = They vnderstood not that hee spake to them of the Father.

8:28

12507 = Then saide Iesus vnto them,

15925 = When yee haue lift vp the Sonne of man,

25217 = then shall ye know that I am he, and that I doe nothing of my selfe:

22092 = but as my Father hath taught mee, I speake these things.

8:29

12865 = And he that sent me, is with me:

13105 = the Father hath not left mee alone,

20248 = for I doe alwayes those things that please him.

8:30

18600 = As hee spake those words, many beleeued on him.

8:31

24252 = Then said Iesus to those Iewes which beleeued on him,

23397 = If ye continue in my word, then are yee my disciples indeed.

8:32

27051 = And ye shall know the Trueth, and the Trueth shall make you free.

8:33

8233 = They answered him:

19982 = We be Abraham seed and were neuer in bondage to any man:

15491 = how sayest thou, Yee shall be made free?

8:34

24059 = Iesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say vnto you,

26333 = Whosoeuer committeth sinne is the seruant of sinne.

8:35

20993 = And the seruant abideth not in the house for euer:

11029 = but the Sonne abideth euer.

8:36

23554 = If the Sonne therfore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

8:37

21979 = I know that yee are Abrahams seed, but ye seeke to kill mee,

15452 = because my word hath no place in you.

8:38

20296 = I speake that which I haue seene with my Father:

21835 = and ye do that which ye haue seene with your father.

8:39

22351 = They answered, and said vnto him, Abraham is our father.

22590 = Iesus sayth vnto them, If yee were Abrahams children,

15272 = ye would doe the works of Abraham.

8:40

12260 = But now yee seeke to kill me,

15621 = a man that hath tolde you the trueth,

9453 = which I haue heard of God:

7721 = this did not Abraham.

8:41

11601 = Ye doe the deeds of your father.

8593 = Then said they to him,

13820 = We be not borne of fornication,

11327 = wee haue one Father, euen God.

8:42

10183 = Iesus said vnto them,

18884 = If God were your Father, yee would loue me,

15340 = for I proceeded foorth, and came from God:

15318 = neither came I of my selfe, but he sent me.

8:43

16150 = Why doe yee not vnderstand my speech?

15334 = euen because yee cannot heare my word.

8:44

12643 = Ye are of your father the deuill,

18165 = and the lusts of your father ye will doe:

16867 = hee was a murtherer from the beginning,

25456 = and abode not in the trueth, because there is no truth in him.

19218 = When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his owne:

12980 = for he is a liar, and the father of it.

8:45

19999 = And because I tell you the truth, ye beleeue me not.

8:46

16730 = Which of you conuinceth mee of sinne?

19239 = And if I say the trueth, why doe ye not beleeue mee?

8:47

16006 = He that is of God, heareth Gods words:

20191 = ye therefore heare them not, because ye are not of God.

8:48

19166 = Then answered the Iewes, and said vnto him,

25926 = Say wee not well that thou art a Samaritane, & hast a deuill?

8:49

15443 = Iesus answered, I haue not a deuill:

19333 = but I honour my Father and ye doe dishonour mee.

8:50

13327 = And I seeke not mine owne glory,

14428 = there is one that seeketh & iudgeth.

8:51

13264 = Verely, verely I say vnto you,

16620 = If a man keepe my saying, hee shall neuer see death.

8:52

13361 = Then said the Iewes vnto him,

19208 = Now we know that thou hast a deuill.

19026 = Abraham is dead, and the Prophets: and thou sayest,

19028 = If a man keepe my saying, he shall neuer taste of death.

8:53

23046 = Art thou greater then our father Abraham, which is dead?

9537 = and the Prophets are dead:

13360 = whom makest thou thy selfe?

8:54

26780 = Iesus answered, If I honour my selfe, my honour is nothing:

29722 = it is my Father that honoureth me, of whom ye say, that he is your God:

8:55

19055 = Yet ye haue not knowen him, but I know him:

25757 = and if I should say, I know him not, I shalbe a lyar like vnto you:

14425 = but I know him, and keepe his saying.

¹Abomination of Desolation

Message posted to friends on 26 February 2014:

While in Iceland last August, I met with Pétur Halldórsson at the Cafe Milano in Reykjavík. We discussed matters of mutual interest, including what my Saga Cipher work might “mean“.

I took a napkin and, for emphasis, wrote down the number 438097. This is the Cipher Sum of some three dozen names of persons, institutions, dates and events during the reference period, including two famous murder cases, a sex scandal in high places, and presumptive lies told in connection therewith.

I told Pétur (what I had long surmised) that I believed that this number was associated with a watershed event in human history whose final phase was upon our world.

An earth-shaking culmination of human and spiritual evolution.

* But now one thing must be said to young skalds, to such as yearn to attain to the craft of poesy and to increase their store of figures with traditional metaphors; or to those who crave to acquire the faculty of discerning what is said in hidden phrase: let such an one, then, interpret this book to his instruction and pleasure. Yet one is not so to forget or discredit these traditions as to remove from poesy those ancient metaphors with which it has pleased Chief Skalds to be content; nor, on the other hand, ought Christian men to believe in heathen gods, nor in the truth of these tales otherwise than precisely as one may find here in the beginning of the book.

(KJB 1611)

2:28

For hee is not a Iew, which is one outwardly, neither is that Circumcision, which is outward in the flesh.

2:29

But he is a Iew which is one inwardly, and Circumcision is, that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter, whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Prologue

Dan., KJB 1611

12:1

And at that time shall Michael stand vp, the great Prince which standeth for the children of thy people, and there shalbe a time of trouble, such as neuer was since there was a nation, euen to that same time: and at that time thy people shalbe deliuered, euery one that shalbe found written in the booke.

12:2

And many of them that sleepe in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to euerlasting life, and some to shame and euerlasting contempt.

12:3

And they that be wise shall shine as the brightnesse of the firmament, and they that turne many to righteousnesse, as the starres for euer and euer.

12:4

But thou, O Daniel, shut vp the wordes, and seale the booke euen to the time of the ende: many shall runne to and fro, and knowledge shall bee increased.

I. Snorri Sturluson’s Advice to Young Poets

(Edda, Skáldskaparmál, Ch. 8)

197920

16349 = En þetta er nú at segja ungum skáldum,

15868 = þeim er girnast at nema mál skáldskapar

16723 = ok heyja sér orðfjölða með fornum heitum

15251 = eða girnast þeir at kunna skilja þat,

14787 = þær er höfuðskáld hafa sér líka látit.

17358 = ok eigi á sannyndi þessa sagna annan veg en svá

12776 = sem hér finnst í upphafi bókar.*

197920

II. Myth as Mnemonic Device

(Edda, Preface, Ch. 1)

197920

20868 = En til þess at heldr mætti frá segja eða í minni festa,

(Edda, Gylfaginning, Omega paragraph)

¹Platonic Construction of Saga-Shakespeare Myth

7 February 2018

Background

The Same and The Other

The astronomy of Plato is based on the two principles of the same and the other, which God combined in the creation of the world. The soul, which is compounded of the same, the other, and the essence, is diffused from the centre to the circumference of the heavens. We speak of a soul of the universe; but more truly regarded, the universe of the Timaeus is a soul, governed by mind, and holding in solution a residuum of matter or evil, which the author of the world is unable to expel, and of which Plato cannot tell us the origin. The creation, in Plato’s sense, is really the creation of order; and the first step in giving order is the division of the heavens into an inner and outer circle of the other and the same, of the divisible and the indivisible, answering to the two spheres, of the planets and of the world beyond them, all together moving around the earth, which is their centre.

Three Parts of Man‘s Soul

The soul of man is divided by [Plato] into three parts […] First, there is the immortal nature of which the brain is the seat, and which is akin to the soul of the universe. This alone thinks and knows and is the ruler of the whole. Secondly, there is the higher mortal soul which, though liable to perturbations of her own, takes the side of reason against the lower appetites. The seat of this is the heart, in which courage, anger, and all the nobler affections are supposed to reside. There the veins all meet; it is their centre or house of guard whence they carry the orders of the thinking being to the extremities of his kingdom. There is also a third or appetitive soul, which receives the commands of the immortal part, not immediately but mediately, through the liver, which reflects on its surface the admonitions and threats of the reason.

I. This we have to tell, for this is history.

(Les Misérables, Book Twelve, Ch. VI)

1137823

In these hours of waiting what did they do?  This we have to tell, for this is history. While the men were making cartridges and the women lint, while a large pot, full of melted pewter and lead destined for the bullet mold was smoking over a hot stove, while the lookouts were watching the barricades with weapons in hand, while Enjolras, whom nothing could distract, was watching the lookouts, Combeferre, Courfeyrac, Jean Prouvaire, Feuilly, Bossuet, Joly, Bahorel, a few others besides, sought each other out and got together, as in the most peaceful days of their student conversations, and in a corner of this bistro turned into a pillbox, within two steps of the redoubt they had thrown up, their carbines primed and loaded resting on the backs of their chairs, these gallant young men, so near their last hour, began to recite a love poem. What poem?  Here it is: [Translation in Appendix]

The Love Song – Translation

Do you remember our sweet life

When were so young, we two,

And had in our hearts no other desire

Than to be well dressed and be in love.

When by adding your age to mine,

We couldn’t reach forty years between us,

And, in our humble little home,

Everything, even in winter, seemed spring?

Beautiful days!  Manuel was proud and wise,

Paris sat down to incredible banquets,

Foy was waxing eloquent, and your blouse

Had a pin that pricked me.

Everyone gazed at you.  A lawyer without a case,

When I took you to The Prado for dinner,

You were so pretty that the roses

Seemed to turn away.

I heard them say: Isn’t she beautiful!

How lovely she smells!  What flowing hair!

Under her cape she’s hiding wings;

Her charming hat has scarcely bloomed.

I wandered with you, squeezing your lissome arm.

People passing thought that charmed love

Had married in us, the happy couple,

The sweet month of April with the handsome month of May.

We lived hidden away, happy, the door closed,

Devouring love, good forbidden fruit;

My mouth had not said one thing

When already your heart had answered.

The Sorbonne was the bucolic spot

Where I adored you from dusk to dawn.

That is how a loving soul applies

The map of Tenderness to the Quartier Latin.

O Place Maubert!  O Place Dauphine!

When, in the meager springlike room,

You drew your stocking up over your slim leg,

I saw a star in a garret nook.

I’ve read a lot of Plato, but remember nothing

Better than Malebranche and Lammenais;

You showed me celestial kindness

With the flower you gave me.

I obeyed you, you were in my power.

O gilded garret!  To lace you up!  To see you

Coming and going from daybreak in a chemise,

Gazing at your young forehead in your old mirror!

And who could ever lose the memory

Of those times of dawn and sky,

Of ribbons, of flowers, of muslin and watered silk,

When love stammers a charmed argot?

Our gardens were a pot of tulips;

You screened the window with your slip;

I would take the pipe clay bowl,

And I gave you the porcelain cup.

And those great calamities that made us laugh!

Your muff burnt, your boa lost!

And that beloved portrait of the divine Shakespeare

That we sold one evening for our supper!

I was a beggar, and you charitable;

I gave fleeting kisses to your cool round arms.

Dante in-folio was our table

For gaily consuming a hundred chestnuts.

The first time, in my joyful hovel,

I stole a kiss from your fiery lips,

When you went off disheveled and pink,

I stayed there pale and believed in God!

Do you remember our countless joys,

And all those shawls turned to rags?

Oh!  From our shadow-filled hearts what sighs

Flew off into the limitless skies!

The same is true of the subject matter of this present post. And, while the Saga Cipher serves to establish numerical consistency between parts of the presentation, mere numerical consistency cannot outweigh the “convictions“ of 99% of Shakespeare scholars whose intellectual capital is invested in the proposition that Will Shakspere of Stratford was not only a real living person but also the world‘s greatest literary figure.

Still, as shown below, the Preface and Omega paragraphs of a most curious book by the 19th century French priest l’Abbé H. BOUDET, yield Cipher Values which fit perfectly with my own previous presentation of the Platonic-Augustan-Saga-Shakespeare literary tradition and of Will Shakspere being created through a spurious “record“ as an early version of Forrest Gump.

* Inferno, Canto I

Halfway through the journey we are living

I found myself deep in a darkened forest,

For I had lost all trace of the straight path.

** Paradiso Canto XXXIII

Here powers failed my high imagination:

But by now my desire and will were turned,

Like a balanced wheel rotated evenly,

By the Love that moves the sun and the other stars.

Background

The Turtle and The Phoenix – Dante and Beatrice

The Phoenix and the Turtle is an allegorical poem about the death of ideal love by William Shakespeare. It is widely considered to be one of his most obscure works and has led to many conflicting interpretations. It has also been called „the first great published metaphysical poem“. (Wikipedia)

The allegorical aspect of The Turtle and The Phoenix, as expressed in the concept of “married chastity” in the final Threnos sectioin, is identical to that of Dante and Beatrice in Commedia and of Hamlet and Ophelia in Shakespeare’s play.

In all three instances, the aspect appears to be paradoxical when stated by Dante as follows:

Vergine Madre, figlia del tuo figlio

Virgin Mother, daughter of your son

The “Virgin” is the divine aspect of Man’s Soul. In Kabbalah, it is the final stage of the Divinity’s manifestation at the level of Man through ten so-called Sefiroths. In his To be, or not to be soliloquy, it is of his Soul’s attainment of that final stage that Prince Hamlet speaks as follows:

…to dye, to sleepe

No more; and by a sleepe, to say we end

The Heart-ake, and the thousand Naturall shockes

That Flesh is heyre too? ‘Tis a consummation

Deuoutly to be wish’d.

Such “consummation” marks an end of the “married chastity” of Turtle and Phoenix. In myth, the “event” symbolizes the fiery union of Heaven and Earth, whereby Old Heaven and Earth is reduced to “ashes” and New Heaven and Earth – Brave New World – is born.

² Poem

The poetic imagery in the first two lines conveys the thought that the Poet‘s life is about to end. There follows (in loose translation):

kostaðu hug þinn herða,         – try to be brave,

hér muntu lífit verða.             – here you will die.

Skafl beygjattu, skalli,              – Don‘t cringe

þótt skúr á þik falli,                 – at some rainfall,

ást hafðir þú meyja.                – you had virgins‘ love.

Eitt sinn skal hverr deyja.      – All shall die once.
