The Measure of the Cosmos – II

© Gunnar Tómasson

25 April 2017

NB. The Circumference of a Circle of Radius 339999 is shown here as 2,137,137.

The correct value of this reference magnitude is 2,136,277 and other parts of the presentation need to be reviewed in light thereof.

Foreword

During the reign of Saxon King Athelstan of England (920-940 A.D.) the law of the land spelled out the size of the King’s holy verge, as defined from its center in terms of 6 different units of measurement as follows: 3 miles, 3 furlongs, 9 acres, 9 feet, 9 palms, 9 barley corns.

Pétur Halldórsson, a long-time colleague and student of Saga myth, mentioned this law in a Facebook entry yesterday. I had come across it many years ago but now it occurred to me to construe this curious bit of information as an allusion to the length of a circle’s radius of 339999 units of measurement.

In the context of Saga-Shakespeare Myth, the Cosmos is defined in terms of the Zodiac above and its projection on Land below. Thus the size of the diameter of such a circular projection would be double the radius or  679998 units of measurement.

The Circumference – 2πr – of a Circle of Radius 339999 is 2,137,137 and ”union” of its Diameter and Circumference – in Hamlet’s “consummation devoutly to be wish’d” – is 679998 + 2137137 = 2817135.

15504 = THE PLAN OF THE GREAT INSTAURATION¹

38261 = The sixth part of my work (to which the rest is subservient and ministrant)

33170 = discloses and sets forth that philosophy which by the legitimate, chaste,

28160 = and severe course of inquiry which I have explained and provided

14929 = is at length developed and established.

20791 = The completion, however, of this last part

21041 = is a thing both above my strength and beyond my hopes.

13043 = I have made a beginning of the work —

16254 = a beginning, as I hope, not unimportant:

22693 = the fortune of the human race will give the issue,

9438 = such an issue, it may be,

22961 = as in the present condition of things and men‘s minds

14613 = cannot easily be conceived or imagined.

24377 = For the matter in hand is no mere felicity of speculation,

22866 = but the real business and fortunes of the human race,

12225 = and all power of operation.

24290 = For man is but the servant and interpreter of nature:

15096 = what he does and what he knows

30711 = is only what he has observed of nature‘s order in fact or in thought;

20456 = beyond this he knows nothing and can do nothing.

24756 = For the chain of causes cannot by any force be loosed or broken,

18176 = nor can nature be commanded except by being obeyed.

28279 = And so those twin objects, human knowledge and human power,

7812 = do really meet in one;

23919 = and it is from ignorance of causes that operation fails.

28948 = And all depends on keeping the eye steadily fixed upon the facts of nature

19622 = and so receiving their images simply as they are.

17998 = For God forbid that we should give out

26112 = a dream of our own imagination for a pattern of the world;

27746 = rather may he graciously grant to us to write an apocalypse

36554 = or true vision of the footsteps of the Creator imprinted on his creatures.

11729 = Therefore do thou, O Father,

29189 = who gavest the visible light as the first fruits of creation,

23953 = and didst breathe into the face of man the intellectual light

32933 = as the crown and consummation thereof, guard and protect this work,

26865 = which coming from thy goodness returneth to thy glory.

36518 = Thou when thou turnedst to look upon the works which thy hands had made,

28981 = sawest that all was very good, and didst rest from thy labors.

31736 = But man, when he turned to look upon the work which his hands had made,

36129 = saw that all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and could find no rest therein.

34930 = Wherefore if we labor in thy works with the sweat of our brows,

26519 = thou wilt make us partakers of thy vision and thy sabbath.

22461 = Humbly we pray that this mind may be steadfast in us,

14812 = and that through these our hands,

29068 = and the hands of others to whom thou shall give the same spirit,

32882 = thou wilt vouchsafe to endow the human family with new mercies.

26386 = even the world itself and the nature of things and of the mind.

21286 = And to say truth, I am wont for my own part

30021 = in the gravity of your judgments, in the peacefulness of your reign,

13282 = in the largeness of your heart,

30697 = for the collecting and perfecting of a natural and experimental history,

15147 = and the same well examined and weighed.

10456 = I have provided the machine,

The Measure of the Cosmos

© Gunnar Tómasson

24 April 2017

Pétur Halldórsson, a long-time colleague and student of Saga myth, mentioned this law in a Facebook entry today.

Saga-Shakespeare Myth is based on ancient creation myth, where a Circle‘s Diameter is to its Circumference as Penis is to Vagina. In his to-be-or-not-to-be soliloquy, Prince Hamlet mention of “a consummation devoutly to be wish‘d“ alludes to this central aspect of ancient creation myth.

As noted in many previous occasions, the Cipher Value of Prince Hamlet‘s soliloquy through “well, well, well“ is 714889. In turn, this is the sum of a Diameter of 679998 units and 34891 as in 679998 + 34891 = 714889. For purposes of demonstration, this residual may be linked to Hamlet Myth as follows:

15621 = The Tragedie of Hamlet, Prince of Denmarke.

1000 = Light of the World

616 = Satan – Alternative number form to 666.

6960 = Jarðlig skilning – Earthly understanding

-5596 = Andlig spekðin – Spiritual wisdom

16290 = Bergþórshváll-Miðeyjarhólmr-Helgafell (The Sacred Triangle of Pagan Iceland)

34891

The Circumference – 2πr – of a Circle of Radius 339999 is 2,137,137 and ”union” of its Diameter and Circumference – in  “consummation devoutly to be wish’d” – is 679998 + 2137137 = 2817135.

¹ Now the last age by Cumae’s Sibyl sung has come and gone, and the majestic roll of circling centuries begins anew: justice returns, returns old Saturn’s reign, with a new breed of men sent down from heaven.  Only do thou, at the boy’s birth in whom the iron shall cease, the golden race arise, befriend him, chaste Lucina; ‘tis thine own Apollo reigns.  And in thy consulate, this glorious age, O Pollio, shall begin, and the months enter on their mighty march.  Under thy guidance, whatso tracks remain of our old wickedness, once done away, shall free the earth from never-ceasing fear.  He shall receive the life of gods, and see heroes with gods commingling, and himself be seen of them, and with his father’s worth reign o’er a world of peace.

II. A Shadow of Truth – After the Play

(Shakespeare Myth)

484969

In 1598 an unknown author of considerable talent and great charm wrote a series of satires, which he called Scialetheia, or A Shadow of Truth.  In his snapdragon verses he described the vanity of the times.  Staying late after the play at the Curtain, he had the wit to see that the dark theatre, vast and secret, represented something unfathomably precious. (Robert Payne, By Me, William Shakespeare, 1980, p. 75):

13328 = The City is the map of vanities,

16587 = The mart of fools, the magazin of gulls,

20512 = The painter’s shop of Anticks: walk in Paul’s

18826 = And but observe the sundry kinds of shapes

21682 = Th’ wilt swear that London is as rich in apes

14080 = As Africa Tabraca.  One wries his face.

20587 = This fellow’s wry neck is his better grace.

14586 = He coined in newer mint of fashion,

24232 = With the right Spanish shrug shows passion.

15935 = There comes on in a muffler of Cadiz beard,

19993 = Frowning as he would make the world afeard;

18479 = With him a troop all in gold-daubed suits,

19235 = Looking like Talbots, Percies, Montacutes,

21589 = As if their very countenances would swear

17842 = The Spaniard should conclude a peace for fear:

17567 = But bring them to a charge, then see the luck,

23345 = Though but a false fire, they their plumes will duck.

21733 = What marvel, since life’s sweet?  But see yonder,

14906 = One like the unfrequented Theatre

18199 = Walks in vast silence and dark solitude.

20492 = Suited to those black fancies which intrude

19795 = Upon possession of his troubled breast:

19151 = But for black’s sake he would look like a jest,

15724 = For he’s clean out of fashion: what he?

14513 = I think the Genius of antiquity,

14586 = Come to complain of our variety

  7465 = Of fickle fashions.

484969

I + II = 394811 + 484969 = 879780

III + IV = 199022 + 529042 + 151716 = 879780

III. Get thee behind mee, Satan.

(Matt. 16:21-23. Saga-Shakespeare Myth)

199022

16:21

29661 = From that time foorth began Iesus to shew vnto his disciples,

18499 = how that he must goe vnto Hierusalem,

26389 = and suffer many things of the Elders and chiefe Priests & Scribes,

14138 = and be killed, and be raised againe the third day.

16:22

19850 = Then Peter tooke him, and began to rebuke him, saying,

22014 = Be it farre from thee Lord: This shal not be vnto thee.

16:23

14777 = But he turned, and said vnto Peter,

20644 = Get thee behind mee, Satan, thou art an offence vnto me:

23056 = for thou sauourest not the things that be of God,

9994 = but those that be of men.

IV. Get thee hence, Satan.

(Matt. Ch. 4:1-11, KJB, 1611)

529042

4:1

28613 = Then was Iesus led vp of the Spirit into the Wildernesse,

11214 = to bee tempted of the deuill.

4:2

13181 = hee was afterward an hungred.

4:3

16482 = And when the tempter came to him, hee said,

10566 = If thou be the Sonne of God,

15281 = command that these stones bee made bread.

4:4

18472 = But he answered, and said, It is written,

11833 = Man shall not liue by bread alone,

26509 = but by euery Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

20924 = Then the deuill taketh him vp into the holy Citie,

16520 = and setteth him on a pinacle of the Temple,

4:6

8004 = And saith vnto him,

20580 = If thou bee the Sonne of God, cast thy selfe downe:

28489 = For it is written, He shall giue his Angels charge concerning thee,

15292 = & in their handes they shall beare thee vp,

22323 = lest at any time thou dash thy foote against a stone.

4:7

19606 = Iesus said vnto him, It is written againe,

17802 = Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

4:8

25356 = Againe the Deuill taketh him vp into an exceeding high mountaine,

20642 = and sheweth him all the kingdomes of the world

8143 = and the glory of them:

4:9

22688 = And saith vnto him, All these things will I give thee

19710 = if thou wilt fall downe and worship me.

4:10

12627 = Then saith Iesus vnto him,

17837 = Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written,

18110 = Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God,

13398 = and him onely shalt thou serue.

4:11

The Greek form Messias is a transliteration of the Hebrew, Messiah, „the anointed“. The word appears only twice of the promised prince (Daniel 9:26; Psalm 2:2); yet, when a name was wanted for the promised one, who was to be at once King and Saviour, it was natural to employ this synonym for the royal title, denoting at the same time the King’s royal dignity and His relation to God. The full title „Anointed of Jahveh“ occurs in several passages of the Psalms of Solomon and the Apocalypse of Baruch, but the abbreviated form, „Anointed“ or „the Anointed“, was in common use.

²Abomination of Desolation

Message posted to friends on 26 February 2014:

While in Iceland last August, I met with Pétur Halldórsson at the Cafe Milano in Reykjavík. We discussed matters of mutual interest, including what my Saga Cipher work might “mean“.

I took a napkin and, for emphasis, wrote down the number 438097. This is the Cipher Sum of some three dozen names of persons, institutions, dates and events during the reference period, including two famous murder cases, a sex scandal in high places, and presumptive lies told in connection therewith.

I told Pétur (what I had long surmised) that I believed that this number was associated with a watershed event in human history whose final phase was upon our world.

An earth-shaking culmination of human and spiritual evolution.

Translated by Horace Gregory:

And now the measure of my song is done:

The work has reached its end; the book is mine,

None shall unwrite these words: nor angry Jove,

Nor war, nor fire, nor flood,

Nor venomous time that eats our lives away.

Then let that morning come, as come it will,

When this disguise I carry shall be no more,

And all the treacherous years of life undone,

And yet my name shall rise to heavenly music,

The deathless music of the circling stars.

As long as Rome is the Eternal City

These lines shall echo from the lips of men,

As long as poetry speaks truth on earth,

That immortality is mine to wear.

The Wittiest Poet in the World

© Gunnar Tómasson

19 April 2017

Background

A

Francis Bacon?

„It is impossible to help but notice now and then that Armado [of Shakespeare’s ‘Love’s Labour’s Lost’] is extraordinarily like Don Quixote in his consistent overestimate of himself and in his insistence on imagining himself a superhuman storybook hero. […]

„There is something rather pleasant in the thought that Shakespeare might be borrowing from Miguel de Cervantes, the Spanish author of the Don Quixote saga, since Cervantes was almost an exact contemporary of Shakespeare’s and by all odds one of the few writers, on the basis of Don Quixote alone, worthy of being mentioned in the same breath with Shakespeare.

„There is only one catch, but that is a fatal one. The first part of Don Quixote was published in 1605, a dozen years at least after Love’s Labor’s Lost was written.“ (Isaac Asimov, Asimov’s Guide to Shakespeare, Avenel Books, New York, 1978, Vol, I, pp. 431-2.)

„Another curious case of cryptography was presented to the public in 1917 by one of the best of the SHAKESPEARE scholars, Dr. Alfred von Weber Ebenhoff of Vienna.  Employing the same systems previously applied to the works of Bacon, he began to examine the works of Cervantes…. Pursuing the investigation, he discovered overwhelming material evidence: the first English translation of Don Quixote bears corrections in Bacon’s hand.  He concluded that this English version was the original of the novel and that Cervantes had published a Spanish translation of it.“ (J. Duchaussoy, Bacon, Shakespeare ou Saint-Germain?, Paris, La Colombe, 1962, p. 122 – in Umberto Eco’s Foucault’s Pendulum, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Publishers, New York, 1989, p. 406.)

B

Will Shakspere?

How We Know That Shakespeare Wrote Shakespeare: The Historical Facts

By Tom Reedy and David Kathman¹

  1. William Shakespeare of Stratford-upon-Avon, the actor and Globe-sharer, was the playwright and poet William Shakespeare.

[…]

5i. In a copy of the First Folio now at the Folger Shakespeare Library, the following poem is written in a hybrid secretary-italic hand from the 1620s:

Here Shakespeare lies whom none but Death could Shake,
And here shall lie till judgement all awake,
When the last trumpet doth unclose his eyes,
The wittiest poet in the world shall rise.

The same hand has on the same page transcribed the verses from Shakespeare’s monument („Stay passenger why go’st thou by so fast“) and his grave („Good friend for Jesus’ sake forbear“), so he is obviously referring to William Shakespeare of Stratford. Apparently, somebody went to Stratford and transcribed the poems off the monument and the tombstone, then transcribed them into a copy of the First Folio along with another epitaph. This writer seems not only to have believed that the man buried in Stratford was the author of the First Folio, but that he was „the wittiest poet in the world.“

The Genius of Antiquity – A Shadow of Truth

The Holy Sepulchre

Mind of Man/Man-Beast of Seventh Day

489591

19993 = Frowning as he would make the world afeard;

7465 = Of fickle fashions.

V. Lost Men, Prepared for Death, Beseech God

To Discover Land for Them, so they might not perish.

(New Atlantis, Opening paragraph)²

471554

    9466 = WE sailed from Peru,

23366 = where we had continued by the space of one whole year,

13417 = for China and Japan, by the South Sea,

23861 = taking with us victuals for twelve months;

13379 = and had good winds from the east,

22954 = though soft and weak, for five months’ space and more.

28995 = But then the wind came about, and settled in the west for many days,

17343 = so as we could make little or no way,

21228 = and were sometimes in purpose to turn back.

29886 = But then again there arose strong and great winds from the south,

9075 = with a point east;

30459 = which carried us up, for all that we could do, toward the north:

17366 = by which time our victuals failed us,

15062 = though we had made good spare of them.

12805 = So that finding ourselves,

31524 = in the midst of the greatest wilderness of waters in the world,

34566 = without victual, we gave ourselves for lost men, and prepared for death.

23386 = Yet we did lift up our hearts and voices to God above,

19170 = who showeth His wonders in the deep;

19626 = beseeching Him of His mercy that as in the beginning

23052 = He discovered the face of the deep, and brought forth dry land,

  31568 = so He would now discover land to us, that we might not perish.

VI. A Great Pillar of Light

(New Atlantis, p. 6)

952113

  33671 = “About twenty years after the ascension of our Saviour it came to pass,

19479 = that there was seen by the people of Renfusa

27050 = (a city upon the eastern coast of our island, within sight,

12659 = the night was cloudy and calm),

21946 = as it might be some mile in the sea, a great pillar of light;

20109 = not sharp, but in form of a column, or cylinder,

21987 = rising from the sea, a great way up toward heaven;

22214 = and on the top of it was seen a large cross of light,

22354 = more bright and resplendent than the body of the pillar

16282 = Upon which so strange a spectacle,

31427 = the people of the city gathered apace together upon the sands, to wonder;

25085 = and so after put themselves into a number of small boats

18582 = to go nearer to this marvellous sight.

33254 = But when the boats were come within about sixty yards of the pillar,

24281 = they found themselves all bound, and could go no further,

16312 = yet so as they might move to go about,

13289 = but might not approach nearer;

16773 = so as the boats stood all as in a theatre,

15210 = beholding this light, as a heavenly sign.

22286 = It so fell out that there was in one of the boats

23460 = one of the wise men of the Society of Saloman’s House

30843 = (which house, or college, my good brethren, is the very eye of this kingdom),

21055 = who having awhile attentively and devoutly

31512 = viewed and contemplated this pillar and cross, fell down upon his face;

29612 = and then raised himself upon his knees, and lifting up his hands to heaven,

13128 = made his prayers in this manner:

10076 = „‘Lord God of heaven and earth;

14831 = thou hast vouchsafed of thy grace,

27496 = to those of our order to know thy works of creation,

11243 = and true secrets of them;

26296 = and to discern, as far as appertaineth to the generations of men,

27667 = between divine miracles, works of nature, works of art

20807 = and impostures, and illusions of all sorts.

21487 = I do here acknowledge and testify before this people

25288 = that the thing we now see before our eyes is thy finger,

6903 = and a true miracle.

35224 = And forasmuch as we learn in our books that thou never workest miracles,

13005 = but to a divine and excellent end

21313 = (for the laws of nature are thine own laws,

22233 = and thou exceedest them not but upon great cause),

25915 = we most humbly beseech thee to prosper this great sign,

¹Abomination of Desolation

³Jesus Patibilis – The Passible Jesus

(Hans Jonas, The Gnostic Religion)

“As the five angels saw the Light of God in its defilement, they begged the Messenger of Good Tidings, the Mother of Light and the Living Spirit that they send someone to this primal creature to free and save him, reveal to him knowledge and justice, and liberate him from the devils.  So they sent Jesus.  The Luminous Jesus approached the innocent Adam….”  [Citing passage on p. 86]  Jesus is here the god with the mission of revelation to man, a more specialized hypostasis or emanation of the Messenger, whose mission was to the captive Light in general and preceded the creation of man.  That it is he who makes Adam eat from the Tree of Knowledge explains the Christian accusation that the Manichaeans equated Christ with the serpent in Paradise.  Of the content of this revelation, the doctrine concerning “his own self cast into all things” requires comment.  It expresses the other aspect of this divine figure: in addition to being the source of all revelatory activity in the history of mankind, he is the personification of all the Light mixed into matter; that is, he is the suffering form of Primal Man.  This original and profound interpretation of the figure of Christ was an important article of the Manichaean creed and is known as the doctrine of the Jesus patibilis, the “passible Jesus” who “hangs from every tree,” “is served up bound in every dish,” “every day is born, suffers, and dies.”  He is dispersed in all creation, but his most genuine realm and embodiment seems to be the vegetable world, that is, the most passive and the only innocent form of life.  Yet at the same time with the active aspect of his nature he is transmundane Nous who, coming from above, liberates this captive substance and continually until the end of the world collects it, i.e., himself, out of the physical dispersal.  (Hans Jonas, The Gnostic Religion – The Message of the Alien God and the Beginnings of Christianity, Second Edition, revised, Beacon Press, Boston, 1963, pp. 222-229)

Saga-Shakespeare Authorship Issues Resolved

© Gunnar Tómasson

17 April 2017

Foreword

The first part of this note consists of my elaboration of transcriptions from a draft prepared this morning against a background of 40 years of study on related issues.

The second part identifies the Gnostic Christ – Jesus Patibilis or the Passible Jesus – as Our Ever-living Poet of Shakespeares Sonnets, with the Cipher Sum of the first and last two sonnets – # 1, 2, 153, 154 – linking the duo Edward Oxenford, Seventeenth Earl of Oxford, and Francis Bacon to that identification.

²Jesus Patibilis – The Passible Jesus

(Hans Jonas)

I. Francis Bacon‘s “Death“ and Last Letter¹

(Alfred Dodd. Text continues in # IV.)

526846

Every schoolboy knows the story told in their history books how Francis Bacon one snowy day on or about All Fools Day, 1 April 1626, drove with the King’s Physician, Sir John Wedderburn, to Highgate and that at the foot of the Hill he stopped, bought a fowl, and stuffed it with snow with his own hands in order to ascertain whether bodies could be preserved by cold.  During the procedure, we are told, he caught a chill, and instead of Dr. Wedderburn driving him back to Gray’s Inn (whence he had come) or taking him to some warm house, the worthy doctor took him to an empty summer mansion on Highgate Hill, Arundel House, where there was only a caretaker; and there Francis Bacon was put into a bed which was damp and had only been “warmed by a Panne” (a very strange thing for a doctor to do) with the result that within a few days he died of pneumonia.  Dr. Rawley, his chaplain, says that he died “in the early morning of the 9th April, a day on which was COMMEMORATED the Resurrection of Our Saviour”.

That is the story and this is Francis Bacon’s last letter:

14285 = To the Earle of Arundel and Surrey.

7470 = My very good Lord:

27393 = I was likely to have had the fortune of Caius Plinius the Elder,

19392 = who lost his life by trying an experiment

21445 = about the burning of the mountain Vesuvius.

27312 = For I was also desirous to try an experiment or two,

23426 = touching the conservation and induration of bodies.

27127 = As for the experiment itself, it succeeded excellently well;

19881 = but in the journey between London and Highgate,

18137 = I was taken with such a fit of casting,

20866 = as I knew not whether it were the stone,

24599 = or some surfeit of cold, or indeed a touch of them all three.

19809 = But when I came to your Lordship’s house,

20992 = I was not able to go back, and therefore was forced

10541 = to take up my lodging here,

27187 = where your housekeeper is very careful and diligent about me;

10692 = which I assure myself

24956 = your Lordship will not only pardon towards him,

14898 = but think the better of him for it.

21030 = For indeed your Lordship’s house is happy to me;

18831 = and I kiss your noble hands for the welcome

15120 = which I am sure you give me to it.

30197 = I know how unfit it is for me to write to your lordship

15772 = with any other hand than mine own;

32508 = but in troth my fingers are so disjointed with this fit of sickness,

  12980 = that I cannot steadily hold a pen…

²Francisco Goya – Los Caprichos – Saga Myth – I

29 December 2014.

Introduction

Many years ago I saw an exhibition of paintings by Francisco Goya in the Prado Museum in Madrid. I had never seen any of his paintings before but they struck me as familiar! For they appeared to have been selected to show Goya‘s visual construction of concepts from ancient creation myths which I knew well. Thus, I could explain to my late wife the ideas which seemed to be reflected in almost every painting.

Last summer I re-visited the Prado Museum with my sister-in-law and related to her my impression of Goya‘s paintings at the first visit. On our return to Iceland she gave me an excellent Icelandic edition of Goya‘s Los Caprichos – The Monsters – which are described by Wikipedia as follows:

Los Caprichos is a set of 80 prints in aquatint and etching created by the Spanish artist Francisco Goya in 1797 and 1798, and published as an album in 1799. The prints were an artistic experiment: a medium for Goya’s condemnation of the universal follies and foolishness in the Spanish society in which he lived. The criticisms are far-ranging and acidic; he speaks against the predominance of superstition, the ignorance and inabilities of the various members of the ruling class, pedagogical short-comings, marital mistakes and the decline of rationality. Some of the prints have anticlerical themes. Goya described the series as depicting „the innumerable foibles and follies to be found in any civilized society, and from the common prejudices and deceitful practices which custom, ignorance or self-interest have made usual“.

³Abomination of Desolation
